to create.

Is creation our innate human inheritance?

“To create is to perceive, to perceive is to be alive” -George Berkeley

Rick Rubin in his book, The Creative Act, talks about creativity as a way of moving through the world with intention and sensitivity. It's less about output and more about attunement. Less performing and producing, and more of a state of being.

Madeleine L'Engle, the novelist who wrote A Wrinkle in Time, believed that when we create, we echo something sacred. It's not a talent given to few, but rather an inheritance tied in simply being human. To make or to create is to mirror the Creator.

the poet James McCrae, describes creativity almost like tuning a radio. We aren't inventing ideas out of thin air; we're learning to receive them. We tune ourselves through curiosity, presence, observation, and openness until inspiration comes into focus.

Now in this era of AI, creation is more important than ever.

The imperfect human edge,

the soul behind the work poured into something.

Will the human race devalue this innate inheritance?

This is where things get interesting because we've never been in a moment in time where making something with AI is easier, faster, and more abundant.

And yet it's soulless.

It looks like art, but in the end, AI has endless amounts of data but no experience.

No pain,

no ache,

no awe.

I think this distinction will cut through the AI noise and volume and make people question whether the art forms are not only real, but whether they make us truly feel anything.

Perhaps the work that cuts through won’t be the most technically perfect or efficiently produced.

Maybe it will be the work that carries evidence of a real human life behind it.

The photograph that feels honest.

The room that makes people breathe a little deeper.

The song that reminds someone of home.

The conversation that changes the way you see the world.

The words that could only have been written by someone who actually lived them.

Maybe creation has never been about technical skill alone.

Maybe it’s always been about perception.

About meaning.

About heart.

Honestly, I find that incredibly freeing, It takes the pressure off.

Because if creativity isn’t reserved for the most talented people in the room, then it’s available to all of us.

Creation becomes less about producing something extraordinary and more about living with extraordinary awareness.

Shaping our environments to make us feel.

Writing something we felt was gut-wrenchingly beautiful.

Capturing a photo that made you feel alive.

Leaning into a conversation or experience with curiosity in order to bring that inspiration into our orbit.

It's in the taking the time to notice and care.

How beautiful that it's accessible to all of us.

We don't need more talent, more time, more permission, more productivity.

We only need presence.

Live awake. Live intentionally. Live connected. Live raw and messy. Live curiously.

Collaborate with the world around you.

Play with what already exists in your world.

Notice the themes.

pay attention to the things/people/places that light you up and tune your inner signal to receive.

Don't focus on the end result or output, or how good the creation is.

Just practice living raw, open and ready to receive.
