diy: clay bud vase

This is a fun clay hand-building activity that is a great way to add some shape and texture to your shelfie game. My daughter Marley loves that it’s sort of a play on a rainbow but just in our own neutral, minimal aesthetic - although you can paint these once they’re dry with whatever color acrylic paint you want!

MATERIALS

  • air dry clay (here are a few versions that you can get without leaving your home!

  • knife for cutting

  • wooden popsicle sticks or skewers

  • acrylic paint if you want to paint them

HOW TO MAKE

I warmed the air dry clay up in my hands a little, ensuring not to overwork it too much and shaped into a square. I started slowly rolling it out until it was about the thickness I desired and started forming into the size arch that I wanted. The thicker the arch, the longer the hole channel will be for holding your small branches or dried flowers. Once I had my shape down, I used the knife to cut the edges straight and stood it up carefully to make sure it would stand once dry. Then I drilled a hole through the top with my wooden popsicle stick, ensuring not to poke all the though to the other side. I wet my fingers and smoothed the water all over any cracks or creasing. Let it dry for about 3 days depending on the size and then you’re free to use it or paint it with your acrylic paint!
